Quiddich
As you can see, this game is called Quiddich as opposed to Quidditch which is a game in J. K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" novels, so obviously there is no connection.
Quiddich is a team frisbee game where the object is to score the most goals within a particular time period, or alternately to play until either team reaches a certain score.
The game requires at least six players, three on a team. One player is chosen as the keeper, the others are fielders.
Play is generally like that of Ultimate Frisbee in that once you have the frisbee you can't take any steps although you can stand up (if you fell) and pivot on a single foot. No contact is ever allowed between players; any contact, even incidental, allows the offense (those who last had control of the frisbee) gets to throw again from the original spot.
The main difference with Quiddich is that there are between one and three goals on the ground, usually indicated by a hula-hoop, although cones, a circle of rope, etc., can also be used. Getting the frisbee or any part of it into a goal counts as a point.
The endzone is defined by a single line perpendicular to the length of the field. No player besides the keeper can ever enter this zone. The hula-hoops (or equivalent) are placed at least ten feet (3m) away from the line, at a spacing agreed on by all players before the game starts.
The keeper can never touch the frisbee with any part of their body or with any object other than their "broom" unless the frisbee is fully stopped on the ground. If they touch the frisbee illegally, it automatically counts as a point for the other team, no matter who threw the frisbee. Except, if the keeper doesn't move, except for twisting around a single pivot point and the frisbee strikes them, there is no foul and the keeper may throw it back in after it touches the ground. So if a throw is made too close to where the keeper is standing, they may block it.
The keeper's "broom" is a six foot (2m). This is a piece of plastic foam with split edges and an opening running through it. This should be readily available from any hardware store. The broom must not be strong enough to be swung hard without bending. The keeper may use the broom to block shots. The broom may be swung or thrown.
When the frisbee has stopped moving in the end zone (whether or not a goal has been scored) the keeper may pick it up and throw it back in to his team.
If a defender enters their own endzone, they must immediately exit the zone and their team, if it has control of the frisbee, must immediately forfeit it to the other team at its current location.
If an attacker enters their opponent's end zone, they must immediately exit and if their team currently has control of the frisbee, must immediately forfeit it to the other team at its current location.
If you're interested in simulations of Quidditch from Harry Potter, College Quidditch has been around for several years. You can read more about it at CollegeQuidditch.com.
